WHAT ARE GEOSYNTHETICS?
Los geosintéticos son materiales, principalmente fabricados con productos derivados del petróleo, originalmente usados en aplicaciones de ingeniería geotecnia, utilizados para mejorar, cambiar o mantener las características del suelo con el que interactúan.

WHAT DO GEOSYNTHETICS SERVE FOR?
Los Geosintéticos cumplen varias funciones. A manera de ubicar los adecuadamente, podemos dividirlas en:
Separación: Es la función que por medio de geosintéticos porosos y flexibles, previenen la mezcla de dos estratos o materiales diferentes evitando la contaminación entre ellos, conservando las cualidades físicas y mecánicas de cada uno.

Filtración: Es la función que por medio de geosintéticos porosos, flexibles y permeables, en presencia de agua entre dos estratos o materiales diferentes, permite el paso del fluido, evitando la migración de finos o que las partículas se mezclen o contaminen entre sí, aun estando sometidos a un trabajo de carga o comprensión

Drenado: A través de geosintéticos, se permite un régimen de flujo entre dos estratos, transportando fluidos o gases a través del plano del geosintético aun sometido a un trabajo de compresión o carga.

Refuerzo: Es la función que por medio de geosintéticos, se aumenta la capacidad de carga de un terreno, teniendo como resultado una superficie más estable; esto se logra por medio de la distribución de cargas, resultado de la interacción o fricción a la que son sometidos los geosintéticos.

Protección: Es la función de recibir, absorber y mitigar una fuerza ejercida sobre una superficie contra los elementos que puedan ocasionar un daño a ésta.

Impermeabilizar: Es la función que por medio de la cual se coloca una frontera o barrera impermeable, aislando dos estratos diferentes evitando la impregnación de uno con el otro

Drainage: Through geosynthetics, a flow regime between two strata is allowed, transporting fluids or gases through the plane of the geosynthetic even undergoing compression or load work.

Reinforcement: It is the function that by means of geosynthetics, the load capacity of a land is increased, resulting in a more stable surface; This is achieved through the distribution of loads, the result of the interaction or friction to which the geosynthetics are subjected.
